Stunt driving proves popular over Labour Day weekend, OPP say

Two 18-year-olds among motorists charged by police with driving at excessive speeds on long weekend

Perth County OPP charged four drivers over the long weekend after police allege they were all driving more than 50 km/h over the speed limit.

Two of the drivers were only 18 years of age. 

On Sept. 2 at around 12:10 p.m., police stopped the driver of a vehicle on Perth Road 180 in West Perth after travelling more than 140 km/h in an 80 km/h limit zone, police said in a news release.

A 22-year-old from Windsor was charged with stunt driving.

Also on Sept. 2 at around 9 p.m., police stopped the driver of a vehicle on Road 164 in North Perth that was allegedly clocked at 135 km/h in an 80 km/h limit zone.

Charged with stunt driving is an 18-year-old resident of Linwood.

On Sept. 3 at 12:02 a.m., police stopped the driver of a vehicle on Wallace Avenue North in North Perth that police say was going over 95 km/h in a 50 km/h limit zone.

Facing stunt driving charges is an 18-year-old from Palmerston.

Also on Sept. 3 at around 1:30 p.m., police charged a 24-year-old from Listowel with stunt driving after officers stopped the driver on Perth Road 140 in North Perth clocked at 131 km/h in an 80 km/h limit zone.

In each incident, a 30-day driving suspension and 14-day vehicle impoundment was initiated. The accused drivers are scheduled to appear at Ontario Court of Justice in Stratford.
