Stratford teen charged with attempted murder

A 16-year-old Stratford male has been charged with attempted murder, after police responded to reports of another teenage male being attacked with a hatchet.  

Stratford Police Services (SPS) responded to a call on Monday afternoon shortly after 4 p.m. in the area of Brydges Street and Louise Street. 

Police located a young man who had suffered non-life-threatening injuries as a result of the attack, they say.

Police are further saying that the attack occurred at a residence on Louise Street, and that the victim was able to escape from the situation before being seriously injured. The victim ran from the area before seeking help from a stranger.

The accused was identified as a 16-year-old male resident of Stratford. The accused and victim are known to one another, and police believe there is no further risk to public safety.

Shortly after 4:30 p.m. the accused was located at his residence where he was arrested without incident.

The accused was transported to Stratford Police Headquarters where he was charged with attempted murder. The accused was held in custody to attend a bail hearing where he was held in custody and is scheduled to return to court tomorrow.
