Police say four drivers charged with impaired over long weekend

In one case, police say officers approached a vehicle emitting 'a strong odour of an alcoholic beverage' with a 20-year-old novice driver behind the wheel

Perth County OPP charged four drivers over the long weekend with impaired driving.

On Sept. 1 at 7:42 p.m.,  Perth OPP stopped a vehicle for speeding on Wellington Road 86 in the Township of Perth East. A 27-year-old from Kitchener was charged with operation while impaired- alcohol and drugs, operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus), dangerous operation, drive motor vehicle - perform stunt - excessive speed and unsafe move - lane or shoulder.

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear at Ontario Court of Justice in Stratford on Sept. 25.

On Sept. 2 at 11:47 p.m., Perth OPP stopped a vehicle after the driver avoided a RIDE stop on Fishleigh Street in Monkton. After speaking with the driver, a 27-year-old Monkton resident was charged with failure or refusal to comply with demand and obstructing a police office.r 

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Stratford on Sept. 25.

On Sept. 3, at 9 p.m., Perth OPP approached a vehicle, noting a strong odour of an alcoholic beverage, while stopped on St. David Street in West Perth.

A 29-year-old from Clinton and a 20-year-old from Huron East were charged with operation while impaired- alcohol and drugs and operation while Impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus).

The 20-year-old was also charged having a B.A.C. above zero as a novice driver. 

Both accused were released from custody and are scheduled to appear at Ontario Court of Justice in Stratford on Oct. 16.

Accused were issued a 90-day administrative driver's license suspension and a seven-day vehicle impoundment.
