Police probing fatal two-vehicle collision southwest of St. Marys

PERTH COUNTY - Police are on the scene of a fatal collision in Perth County earlier today on Highway 7 southwest of St. Marys.

At around 4:30 p.m., the Perth County OPP, Perth County Paramedic Services, and the St. Marys Fire Dept. responded to a serious motor vehicle collision on Highway 7 and Elginfield Road, between Perth Road 118 and Perth Line 9, near the town of Lucan.

Two passenger vehicles had collided, police said in a news release.

One person was extricated from one vehicle and transported to hospital where they were pronounced deceased.

A second person was transported to hospital with non-life threatening injuries. There were no other injuries reported, police said.

The Perth County OPP, with the assistance West Region Traffic Incident Management and Enforcement (TIME) Team, continued to investigate the collision on Thursday evening.

As of around 9 p.m., the areas surrounding Highway 7 between the two roundabouts at Perth Road 118 and Perth Line 9 remained closed for the protection of emergency responders and to facilitate the investigation, police said.

The roads would likely be closed for "a number of hours," police added.
