OPP summer camp a learning experience for area youth

The camp was a success with 15 area youths taking part

Youngsters in Perth County got a chance recently to have a little bit of fun and learn something while they were at it.

Perth County Ontario Provincial Police partnered with the Municipality of North Perth to host a summer camp last week.

Fifteen youth participated, between the ages of six and 12, part of the OPP's Police Academy Summer Camp.

Activities included crafts, games, scavenger hunts, and obstacle courses, all with a police focus.

Specialized units of the OPP, including the Canine, Tactics and Rescue and the USAR/CBRNE Response Team were on hand to give campers some insight into the roles members of the OPP employ, and the equipment they operate.

Campers explored OPP equipment utilized daily by officers on patrol in local communities including cruisers, marine vessels, motorcycles, and all-terrain vehicles.

Campers were also presented with a badge on their last day of camp.

"The Police Academy Summer Camp was a huge success," said Const. Jillian Johnson, from the Community Safety Unit.
