A 42-year-old Stratford man has been arrested following a police investigation into a hit-and-run.

Stratford police determined that the victim, a 53-year-old Stratford male, and the accused, were known to one another. They became involved in an argument on July 29 in a parking lot located across from Anne Hathaway Park on Downie Street.

The suspect intentionally struck the victim with his vehicle, said a news release. The accused dragged the victim and his bicycle for several meters then fled the scene, making no attempt to stop.

The location was next to a housing complex and across the road from a splash pad, park and community baseball diamonds, where a tournament was occurring. Emergency services were contacted, and the victim was taken to hospital where he was treated for injuries.

The accused was located in his vehicle on Aug. 10, shortly before 3:30 p.m. and arrested. Charges include dangerous driving, failing to stop at the scene of an accident and assault with a weapon.
