Fraud charges laid after $40K missing from team's account

Investigation that started in May has resulted in charges against 37-year-old resident of Huron East, OPP say

WEST PERTH – Perth County Ontario Provincial Police are investigating a fraud that they say occurred in Mitchell over the course of a year.

OPP said they were contacted in May of this year by a local sports team who became aware of suspicious activity involving a bank account operated by their organization, police said in a news release.

It was determined that funds exceeding $40,000 were removed fraudulently from the account, police said.

Corrine McKenzie, 37, of Huron East has been charged with fraud over $5,000.

McKenzie is listed as treasurer/secretary of the Mitchell Hawks on the Provincial Junior Hockey League team's website. 

The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Stratford on Aug. 28.

None of the allegations have been tested in court and the accused is considered innocent unless proven guilty.
