Collision in North Perth leads to child's death, another youth in trauma centre

A collision between a horse drawn buggy and passenger vehicle has resulted in the death of a 13-year-old, while an eight-year-old was taken to a trauma centre. 

Perth County OPP said the collision occurred just after 4 p.m. on Monday on Line 71, west of Perth Road 140 in North Perth. 

The two occupants of the horse drawn buggy were transported to a local hospital with serious injuries, police said in a media release. The 13-year-old was pronounced deceased at hospital, the eight-year-old child, was subsequently transported to a trauma centre. The driver of the passenger vehicle was transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The horse also died as a result of the collision.

The investigation is ongoing, and members of the West Region OPP Traffic Incident Management and Enforcement (TIME) Team are assisting Perth County OPP with the investigation.

The area of Line 71 between Perth Road 140 and Road 146 remains was closed after the collision for the protection of emergency responders and to facilitate the investigation.
