Reid Oliver of the Stratford Warriors was named defenceman of the year in the Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League's Midwestern Conference.

The Elmira native, 21, scored 10 of his 14 goals on the powerplay for the Warriors junior B squad, and tallied 37 assists in a 51 point season.

Warrriors' coach Dave Williams picked up the league's coach of the year award in his seventh season after leading Stratford to 38 wins, good enough for second place in the regular season standings.

The Warriors have also reached the league playoff final under Williams, a Stratford native.

Blake Wideman of the Kitchener-Waterloo Siskins was named the Midwestern Conference most valuable player. The 21-year-old had 39 goals and 32 assists to lead the Siskins in scoring during the regular season, leading them to the regular season title.

Wideman is bound for NCAA Division 1 Adrian College.

Blair Scott, 17, of Kitchener, was rookie of the year, scoring 13 times in a 38 point season for the Ayr Centennials.

Scott has signed with the Kitchener Rangers.

Adam Grein of the Elmira Sugar Kings picked up two awards: outstanding contributions to one team and defensive forward of the year. Grein had 21 goals and 21 assists this season.

Tanner Bibby of the Cambridge Red Haws won the ability and sportsmanship award. The Redhawks’ captain scored 36 goals and added 41 assists to help lead his team to a third place finish during the regular season.

His 77 points were good enough for second in the conference scoring race.

Bibby was also one of three forwards named to the Midwestern Conference All-Star team.

Oliver and teammate Zac McCann of Stratford were also named league all-stars. McCann, a Stratford native, led the league in scoring with 83 points, including 27 goals. He had eight powerplay goals in his third full season with the Warriors. He is the first Stratford player to lead the league in scoring since the award was created in 2008.
