Stratford District Secondary School’s Golden Bears track and field team put on an impressive all-around display at Day 1 of the Huron Perth Track and Field Championships in Clinton May 14, including bringing home nine gold medals and a new conference record.
Caden Diehl led the Bears with two golds, including a record-breaking 3.76m height in junior boy’s pole vault. He added a second medal with a jump of 11.91m in triple jump. He wasn’t the only double gold Golden Bear, as Jashan Singh earned top spot in both junior boy’s shot put (13.79m) and discus (47.56m).
Cole Otten continued the strong showing for the juniors with a first place finish in the 100m hurdles in 18.86 seconds. Olivia Mark was the top triple jumper for the senior girl’s division with a 10.35m jump, while Peyton Barclay picked up gold in pole vault (2.25m) in the junior girl’s category. Luke Feltham rounded out the individual honours with a gold in senior boy’s 1500m (4:14.10), with the novice boy’s 4x100m relay team of Zachary Clarke, Anadi Mishra, Nolan Tryssenaar and Caden Ollson had the top time at 50.20 seconds.
Ollson added silver to his collection in the novice boy’s 100m (12.88 seconds), while Mckenzie Parsons (senior girl’s 1500m - 5:53.72), MJ White (junior boy’s 400m - 55.77), Lucas Mueller (junior boy’s 100m hurdles - 20.20), Daniel Ogilvie (senior boy’s 1500m - 4:17.46), Sophie Smith (novice girl’s high jump - 1.25m), and Otten (junior boy’s pole vault - 2.65m) also picked up silver medals. The junior boy’s 4x100m relay team of Owen Chambers, Diehl, Max Campbell and White placed second with a time of 50.95 seconds, while the senior team of Gabe Emms, Dustin Krahn, Adit Mishra and Aaron Marchanton also placed second with a time of 48.28.
Bronze medals went to Ailsa Raleigh (junior girl’s 100m - 14.66s), Chrissy Rupert (junior girl’s 1500m - 5:59.31), Piper Broughton (junior girl’s 80m hurdles - 17.22s), Joel Gates (novice boy’s 1500m - 4:49.14), White (junior boy’s 100m - 12.83s), Noah Feltham (junior boy’s 1500m - 4:40.55), Clarke (novice boy’s long jump - 5.10m), Paige Taylor (junior girl’s pole vault - 2.05m), and Daniel Bean (junior boy’s pole vault - 2.55m).
Day 2 of the championships is scheduled for today at St. Anne’s Catholic Secondary School.
