One goal win, one goal loss for St. Michael at OFSAA girl's hockey championship

St. Michael CSS Warriors won their opening game but lost their second as pool play got underway on Tuesday at the OFSAA A/AA girl's hockey championships, which are being held in Stratford. 

St. Mike's, seeded eighth in the 16-team tournament, beat Lambton CC&VI, the 11th seed, 2-1, in their first of three preliminary round games, at Stratford Rotary Complex.

The Warriors lost 1-0 to Dryden High School, ranked 13th, in an afternoon game at Dufferin Arena. 

St. Michael's final game of the preliminary round is Wednesday morning at 9:15 a.m. against Napanee DSS, who are the second seed.

The top two teams from each of four groups play in the quarterfinals Wednesday afternoon. 

St. David Catholic Secondary School, from Waterloo, is the top ranked team and won the provincial tournament the last time it was held in 2019.

St. Michael won back-to-back OFSAA titles in 2015 and 2016. 

Huron-Perth champion F.E. Madill, the fourth seed, defeated 15th seeded Thomas A. Blakelock 4-1 and won 5-1 over St. Theresa, ranked ninth. 

St. Michael boy's hockey team at provincials 

St. Michael boy's hockey team are competing at the OFSAA A/AA tournament, in St. Catharines. The fifth seeded Warriors tied Crestwood (10) 2-2 and beat John Diefenbaker (16) 2-1 in pool play. 

St. Mike's was scheduled to wrap-up pool play against Regiopolis-Notre Dame, ranked third, Wednesday morning.

Quarterfinals are scheduled for this afternoon.
