The Town of St. Marys notified residents that some driveways will be inaccessible as crews continue work on sanitary sewer replacement under Huron Street.

In a press release, St. Marys advised residents to park on one of the side streets instead while work is occurring on the block along Elgin Street to Elizabeth Street.

It also warned that residents may experience water disruptions while valves are being replaced but those affected will receive additional notices with specific dates and times.

The town said a loud sanitary bypass pump will be used while crews replace the sewer between Jones Street and Elizabeth Street although it will only be used during the day.

Huron Street S. will remain closed between Queen Street and Elizabeth Street, while Elgin Street E. and Jones Street E. will remain closed between St. Andrews Street S. and Brock Street S.

Due to a scheduling change, crews will tackle the Elgin Street to Elizabeth Street block before moving to the Jones Street to Elgin Street block, the town said.

Crews will also be completing road base preparations prior to moving on to the next block.

They said asphalt removals will start either late May 17 or May 18 from Elgin Street to Elizabeth Street.

The existing watermain between Elgin Street and Elizabeth Street will be in the excavation area for the sanitary sewer replacement.

The town said a temporary watermain will be set up on this block and houses will be connected sometime during the week of May 16 as a safety measure but said residents are unlikely to experience any disruption when the transition to the temporary watermain occurs.

St. Marys also notified residents that the first block of sanitary sewer replacement at Huron Street is complete.

It said all blockages in the sanitary system between Queen Street E. and Jones Street have been cleared.

Crews are now replacing water services in that block for residents on the west side of Huron Street.

It said this should be completed on Friday while crews will then install the road base, which should be done by May 17.

A schedule for the repair work is provided below. All dates are subject to weather conditions.

Queen Street E. to Jones Street E.

May 17 – June 3

Elgin Street E. to Elizabeth Street

June 3 – 17

Facility closures

St. Marys will also be performing scheduled facility maintenance at the municipal operations centre at 408 James St. S, as well as the town hall at 175 Queen St. E, over the next several weeks.

Both facilities will be temporarily closed as a result but staff will be working and will be available by phone or email throughout the closures.

The town said residents can call 519-284-2340 for assistance or email [email protected].on.ca with any questions or concerns. A staff directory is also available online at www.townofstmarys.com/contact.

The municipal operations centre will be closed to the public from May 16 to 20.

Residents can make property tax payments during this closure in person at town hall or their local bank, trust company or credit union at no charge.

They can also do this by telephone or internet banking.

Those looking to pay for building permits during the closure can place a cheque in the drop box by the operations centre's main doors or use online banking.

Town hall will be closed to the public from May 26 to June 3 but Stratford Police will be available by phone during this period.

Residents can make property tax payments during this closure at the St. Marys Public Library on May 30 and 31, at the MOC or their local bank, trust company or credit union or by telephone or internet banking.
