Ronald Irvin Salter, age 87, of Sebringville, passed away peacefully at Hillside Manor on August 30, 2023. Born in Stratford, son of the late Charles and Hazel (Robertson) Salter.

Beloved husband for 65 years of Helen (Wolfe). Loving father of Sandy Halls (Gary), Brian (Sheila), Paul (Sue). Grandfather of Braeden Halls (Stephanie), Hayley Jones (David), Luke Salter (Ashlyn), Devin Salter (Megan), Rachel Aitcheson (Jalen), Nicole Wilpstra (Nick), Natalie Salter (Mike). Great grandfather to 5, soon to be 6. Also survived by sisters-in-law Norma Salter, Glenda Salter, Donalda Salter, Elsie McKone-Pierce, Eunice Wolfe, Diane Wolfe and Muriel Scott and many nieces and nephews.

Predeceased by sister Shirley Wilhelm (Russ), brothers Charles Jr., Fred and William (Bill) and granddaughter Karlee in infancy.

First and foremost, Ron was a great family man who spent many summers with family at the cottage north of Goderich, his paradise. A gifted hockey goaltender which saw him play in Stratford, Woodstock and a short stint with the Cleveland Barons of the AHL before opting for a 40-year career at Kroehler’s Manufacturing, like many members of his family. He was a dedicated volunteer firefighter with the Sebringville Fire Department for 35 years where he established many wonderful friendships.

The family would like to thank the staff of Hillside Manor for the loving care he received over the past 5 years. They became part of our family.

In keeping with Ron’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a private family interment will be held at Avondale Cemetery. Memorial donations in Ron’s memory may be made to Rotary Hospice, SickKids Foundation or the charity of one’s choice. Arrangements entrusted to the W.G. Young Funeral Home, 430 Huron Street, Stratford. 519.271.7411 www.wgyoungfuneralhome.com
