John “Douglas” McNall, age 87, of Stratford, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving wife and family on Friday, October 13, 2023 at The Maples Nursing Home (Tavistock). Doug was born in Blyth, ON, son of the late Robert John and Pearl (Jupp) McNall. Doug is survived by his true love and best friend Marjory Jean (Holmes) McNall of 69 years.

Loved father of Carol, Lynda (Bert) Robinson, Gail McNair, Dianne (Jim) Davidson, Patty (Steve) Schenck and John McNall. Proud grandfather of Kathy (Les), Bob (Sarah), Kim, Amanda, Jay, Emily, Norman, Joe, Charlie, great grandfather of Jordan, Tyler (Carlie), Alexia, Mason, Lilly and Colton and great, great grandfather of Rayleigh and Scarlett. Doug will be remembered by his sister Yvonne Schneider and his sister-in-law Evelyn McNall, along with the Holmes family and nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents and his father and mother-in-law Carl and Alexia Holmes, Doug was predeceased by his siblings Delores (Jim) Howatt, Bernice (Jim) Pierce, Rhea (Leo) Racine, June (Ken) Turner and Elgin McNall.

Doug retired after over 20 years as maintenance supervisor from Stratford General Hospital. Family meant the world to Doug and he always looked forward to extended family gatherings. He was an animal lover and avid horseman, and there were many dogs who were very special to him. Doug’s passion was music; he loved country and western and he was a well-known accomplished musician in the area for his songwriting and performances.

Marjory and her family would like to sincerely thank the wonderful PSW’s from Bayshore Home Health, staff at Stratford General Hospital and the staff from The Maples in Tavistock; your care and compassion will always be remembered.

In keeping with Doug’s wishes, cremation has taken place, and a private family service will be held with interment of Doug’s ashes in Munro-Bethel Cemetery. A public celebration of Doug’s life will be held on Saturday, October 21, 2023 from 3:00 p.m.- 6:00 p.m. in the Reception Centre of the W. G. Young Funeral Home, 430 Huron St, Stratford.
