Valdis Walter Kilpis, age 95, of Stratford passed away peacefully at home with family by his side on April 14, 2022. Born in Mazsalaca, Latvia son of the late Janis and Liene Kilpis.
Walter entered the war at age 18 and eventually made his way to England where he met the love of his life Jean Penman. In 1954 they married and started their family, moving to Canada in 1968. Walter was a machinist and worked at Cooper-Bessemer and later Fram before retiring in 1991.
Beloved husband of Jean (Penman). Loving father of Christine (deceased), Peter Kilpis (Rebecca), Inara (Henry Jeronimo), Lisa (Dave Sebben). Father-in-law of Don Hart (Sharon). Grandfather of Renee Stewart (Harry), Raquel Ella (Todd), Jenny Kilpis (David), Jack Sebben (Dani), Steven Sebben, Roger Sebben, Nicholas Jeronimo, Melissa Merkel, Nathan Merkel (Ashley) and J.T. Merkel (Stacey). Great grandfather of Darcy (Dan), Cole (Lauren), Josie, Cara, David, Nuria, Rosa, Dallas, Oakley and Dax and great great grandfather of Cohen, Ezra and Ava.
Predeceased by sister Ruta Medna (Ansis) and brother Villis Kilpis.
Visitation will be held at the W.G. Young Funeral Home, 430 Huron Street, Stratford on Wednesday, April 20, from 7-9 p.m. The family requests all attending wear a mask.
