Joan Evelyn Holmes, age 76, passed away suddenly at Stratford General Hospital in the early morning hours of Friday, January 19. Joan was born in Kenora, daughter of the late Henry and Muriel Tansley. She pursued a rewarding career in teaching, first in Kenora and then with the Waterloo Region District School Board. After moving to Stratford, she volunteered with Friends of the Festival and Stratford Meals on Wheels. She loved her Cairn terriers and cats. In retirement, she greatly enjoyed playing bridge with her friends.
Joan is survived by Ron, her loving husband of 33 years, brother Gary Tansley, sister Marilyn Cory (Bob), brother and sister-in-law Gerry and Judy Holmes and cousin Judy Petch. She is fondly remembered by nieces Lisa Adams, Jenn Spencer (Dave), Leslie Holmes and Lindsay Holmes; and nephews Greg Tansley, Matthew Tansley (Joanne), Jeff Cory (Danilynn), Steve Cory (Kirsten), and Andrew Holmes; along with twelve grand-nieces and grand-nephews. She was pre-deceased by sister-in-law Elaine Tansley.
Cremation has taken place. In accordance with Joan’s wishes, there will be no visitation or funeral service. Memorial donations in Joan’s memory may be made to Rotary Hospice Stratford Perth or to the charity of one’s choice.
