September 3, 1943  -  January 23, 2024

Paul Ross Almas, of Stratford (formerly Hamilton and Burlington), in his 81st year, died peacefully on January 23rd with loved ones by his side at Rotary Hospice Stratford -Perth. He was born Sept 3,1943 to Evelyn and Ross Almas in Beaverton, Ontario.

Paul graduated from the Ontario College of Art and Design, had a fulfilling career in space planning and product design, and additionally for five years acted as Director of Corporate Development for World Vision, traveling extensively worldwide on humanitarian missions. Friends and family will remember his quick wit, creativity, spiritual strength, curiosity, his commitment to life-long learning, and his encyclopedic knowledge of aircraft and old cars. He could play piano ‘by ear’, had a strong and competent singing voice, and loved old hymns.

Paul is survived by his wife, the Ven. Nancy Adams, his four daughters Christine (Les) Richmond, Kimberly (JP) Hatala, Esther (David) Bruins, Rebecca Almas, and grandchildren Elizabeth, Syd, Jaime, Liam, Camryn, Neuman, Edie, Trent, and Harrison. Mourning his passing also are Nancy’s son Ian Schwartz (Katie Fischer) and children Calvin and Claire. Paul is also survived by the mother of his children Beth Helmer and his sisters Ruth Simmons, Grace England, and Elsie McAlpine. Paul was predeceased by his son James, former wife Karen, and his sister Jane Cameron.

Sincerest thanks go to all who participated in Paul’s care – Dr. G. Cox and Sarah Goodwin at The Firestone Institute for Respiratory Health, Hamilton; Nurses Karen and Amy from Care Partners, Dr. Thimm, and the staff and volunteers at Rotary Hospice Stratford-Perth who all offered exemplary care and compassionate attention during Paul’s final days and hours.

Funeral will be held at St James Anglican Church, Stratford, on Saturday February 3, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. with a reception to follow in the church hall. No visitation. Private family interment at Greenwood Cemetery, Burlington, at a later date.
