Some fun at one of the children's water festivals held in Middlesex County.

The Perth Children’s Water Festival will offer an opportunity to learn more about water, where it comes from, where it goes and how to take better care of it.

Falstaff Family Centre is the venue for the festival May 29, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

The event features water education events and stations that highlight the importance of water in the community.

Activity stations include Stream of Dreams Community Art, a fire truck, a hydro-vac truck, a hydration station and other activities based on water conservation, protection, science, and technology.

Linda Smith, Perth Children’s Water Festival coordinator and community partnership specialist with Upper Thames River Conservation Authority, told StratfordToday that the plan was to host the event in the spring of 2020, before the pandemic took hold.

Typically, these types of events were based around student field trips during the school week, she said, but it was decided to make it more of a community event.

Students, parents and guests from the community will have a hands-on experience, featuring the Stream of Dreams, which allows students to paint a fish made of recycled plastic for an on-site art mural.

Smith said the event is a great opportunity to learn more about water, where it comes from, where it goes and how to take better care of it. Similar events are held in Elgin, Middlesex and Oxford counties.

Sign-up is encouraged for Stream of Dreams. Masks are required for entrance to the Falstaff Centre. Parking is limited, so guests are asked to walk, take public transportation or ride their bikes – there is a bike rack at the centre. You can also bring a reusable water bottle to fill at the hydration station.
