Stratford General Hospital is receiving $74,612 through a provincial government funding initiative.

Perth-Wellington MPP Matthew Rae announced the funds on Thursday through a surgical recovery-surgical pathway training fund used by hospitals to open operating rooms on evenings or weekends to reduce surgical backlog and surgical wait times.

"These funds are having an immediate and positive impact on the HPHA team - nurses, medical radiation technologists and medical device reprocessing department team members.” said Andrew Williams, CEO and President of Huron Perth Healthcare Alliance said.

Hospitals in the Perth-Wellington provincial riding are receiving more than $4.5 million in total through funding streams for surgical recovery funds in either the pathway training program, which aims to grow the healthcare workforce by adding and upskilling surgical health professionals and includes those involved in surgeries every step of the way, from diagnosis, the procedure itself, and the recovery process, or surgical and DI innovation and efficiency program, aimed at boosting surgical capacity.

Rae said that the hope is that the funding will help improve surgical wait times and provide care closer to home.

Added Williams: “MPP Rae's ongoing advocacy and support are helping ensure the quality of care across our organization remains strong, and his efforts on our behalf are truly appreciated."

Nearly $1 billion has been invested over 3 years through the surgical recovery fund, returning the surgical wait list to below pre-pandemic levels, Rae said.
