North Perth resident victim of fraud

Perth County OPP remind the public to be vigilant after a North Perth resident was defrauded of $1,000.

The victim was contacted via a text message, from what appeared to be a co-worker. The suspect instructed the victim to purchase $1,000 worth of Google Play Cards.

OPP encourages the public to stay educated and informed to reduce the risk of being a victim of fraud. If you received a message that asks for any personal information (name, birthday, address, phone number, bank information, SIN number), do not provide the information, and check with your bank to make sure the communication is actually coming from them.

Red flags to look for when you receive messages include generic messages (that do not use your name), spelling mistakes, automated messages, and messages from banks/websites you have never used before.
