Warriors reach final 8 at provincial 'AA' volleyball

Host St. Michael Warriors lost in the quarterfinals at the OFSAA 'AA' boys volleyball championships. 

Scarborough's Francis Libermann, ranked fifth, won three of four sets against the seventh ranked Warriors over the weekend. 

St. Michael won three of four matches in the round-robin to advance out of the group stage and into the championship round. 

Top ranked Sudbury Lasalle defended their provincial championship with a gold medal win over Béatrice-Desloges, ranked second, from Orléans. 

Silverthorn, the sixth ranked team, from Mississauga, beat Libermann in the bronze medal match. 

The Warriors entered the tournament after winning the WOSSAA 'AA' title over St. Thomas St. Joseph's.

OFSAA 'A' boys volleyball 

St. Marys DCVI competed at the provincial 'A' tournament in Kitchener. The Salukis lost all of their round-robin games, against École Secondaire Academie Catholique Mère-Teresa, Lockerby and Chatham CHS. 

Hamilton District defeated Smithville Christian in four sets in the gold medal match for their third straight OFSAA title. 

St. Marys DCVI qualified for the OFSAA tournament with a WOSSAA 'A' championship win over London's Mgr. Bruyére. 

OFSAA 'A' girls' basketball championships 

Mitchell Blue Devils, ranked ninth in the 17-team tournament, picked up a couple of wins at the OFSAA 'A' girls basketball championships in Belleville.

The Blue Devils beat Toronto District Christian High School 43-24 and University of Toronto Schools, 46-30.

Mitchell, who won the WOSSAA 'A' title to gain entry to the provincials, lost in the knockout stages to top ranked Woodland Christian, of Breslau, 59-20.

Osgoode Township defeated Ange-Gabriel 44-30 in the gold medal game.
