MPP Matthew Rae announced additional MRI funding for local hospitals.

Local hospitals will receive provincial funding to help operate MRIs over the next two years.

Perth-Wellington MPP Matthew Rae announced funding in a news release.

In Perth County, Listowel Wingham Hospitals Alliance will receive $200,200 for 2022/2023 and 800,800 for 2023/2024.

North Wellington Health Care will receive the same amounts for those time periods.

“This is great news for our local communities and rural hospitals,” Rae said in the statement. “It means local community members will be able to receive their necessary and critical treatment faster and closer to home.”

The government is providing over $6 million to support operational funding hours for up to 37 new MRI machines in hospitals, including 13 hospitals that currently do not have an MRI, the statement added.

“We are thrilled with the announcement of new MRI funding for North Wellington Health Care,” North Wellington Healthcare Corp. President and CEO, Angela Stanley said.

“This new program will allow us to support our region to access care close to home, in a timely fashion," Stanley said in the release.
