Cyclones in first place as GOJHL season resumes

Stratford Warriors, defending Midwestern League champions, are back in third place

Listowel Cyclones are atop the Greater Ontario Junior B Hockey League's Midwestern Conference to start the new year. 

The 2023/2024 season gets back underway this week and the Cyclones (22-6-1-1) find themselves tied with Elmira Sugar Kings (22-8-0-2) for first place with 46 points each. Listowel has two games in hand on the Sugar Kings. 

The Cyclones lead the lead with 126 goals, with just 66 goals against, also tops so far this season. 

Forward Luke Eurig has 43 points, including 19 goals to pace the Cyclones. Eurig leads the conference in scoring.

Teammate Tanner Dietz, from Mitchell, has 11 goals and 37 points. 

Stratford Warriors (20-9-3-0) are back in third place with 43 points through 32 games, five points ahead of the KW Siskins (17-8-1-3). 

Forward Brayden Stumpf has eight goals amongst his 40 points to lead the Warriors. Michael Denney has a league-best 25 goals and 39 points and Carson Harmer, from Mitchell, has racked up 38 points, including 17 goals so far this season. 

The Cyclones are at the Waterloo Memorial Recreation Complex on Saturday to take on the Siskins. The puck drops at 1:30 p.m. 

The Warriors host Cambridge Redhawks on Friday night at 7:30 p.m. at William Allman Memorial Arena.
