Avon Maitland District School Board (AMDSB) has drafted a new multi-year accessibility plan.

The new plan covers a five-year period from 2024 to 2029 and was developed in accordance with the Integrated Accessibility Standards under the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, the board said in a media release.

The Act details measures the board will take to identify, remove, and prevent barriers to people with disabilities who work, learn, and participate in the Board, including students, staff, volunteers, parents and guardians, and visitors to the board office buildings, schools, and Centres for Employment and Learning.

The AODA work group is also looking for feedback regarding the accessibility plan in order to give students, staff, and the community a voice in its finalization.

The consultation began in November with internal and committee feedback.

Further information about the work group, the previous accessibility plan, or the work groups agendas and minutes can be found here.

“We would like to gather feedback from anyone in the community about our newly drafted Multi-year Accessibility Plan," said Cheri Carter, superintendent of corporate services. "We want to ensure that the details are clear and the format is easy to follow, before we finalize the plan."

The plan can be viewed here and feedback can be submitted through a brief Google form by March 27.
