Blake Redfern led the way as the Mitchell Blue Devils won their opening two games at the OFSAA 'A' boy's basketball championships in Welland.

Redfern had 14 points and Will Korver added 10 for the 7th ranked Blue Devils in a 54-33 win Tuesday over Our Lady of Bay Catholic from Collingwood, ranked 10th.

Kale Murray and Jared Vosper added eight points each.

"We were turning the ball over in the first half and not rebounding like we normally do," said Blue Devils coach A.J. Moses. "We made some adjustments in the second half and we were able to pull away. We were able to get all 15 guys in the game."

Mitchell opened the provincial tournament on Monday with a 51-43 win over ÉSC Renaissance, ranked 13th, from Aurora.

Redfern had 17 points for the Blue Devils. Will Korver added 14.

"It was a typical first-round OFSAA game, both teams were clearly nervous in the first quarter," Moses said. "We missed a lot of easy stuff. But they kept with it."

Mitchell play the winner of a game between Kenner, of Peterborough, ranked second in the tournament and 18th ranked Downsview, from North York. That quarterfinal game is scheduled for Tuesday night at 7 p.m. The tournament runs until Wednesday.

The Blue Devils won the Huron-Perth title and qualified for OFSAA after wining the WOSSAA  championship.
