We treat Carrie Wilson to a special surprise to thank her for her selflessness and desire to improve our community

StratfordToday's Liz O'Donnell surprises Carrie Wilson with a Random Act of Kindness surprise.

Carrie Wilson is a pre-school educator who goes above and beyond the call of duty to educate children.

“Carrie is one of the most selfless and sincere people I’ve known, someone who continually finds time in her busy life to care for others,” said her nominator, Claire Bickley. “Being anywhere in Stratford with Carrie is like travelling with a celebrity because of the high likelihood a delighted little kid will call out ‘Miss Wilson!’ and run over to hug her.”

Not only does Carrie spend a great deal of her personal time planning and creating extra-special learning opportunities for her students, but her kindness extends beyond the classroom as well.

Whether she’s supporting local sports teams with fundraising and coaching or assisting non-profits and charities to plan events and raise money, Carrie is known for being a hard-working, dedicated and cheerful individual who can always be counted on to help.

“I grew up playing softball and I’ve made lifelong friendships from playing,” Carrie told StratfordToday. “I know how important it is to build friendships on and off the field and ensure kids want to be active and have fun doing it.”

In addition to helping with coaching and fundraising for local sports teams, she also gives back to local non-profit organizations in an effort to make Stratford a better place for the future.

“Her dedication as a longtime committee member has helped make Stratford’s Relay for Life one of the Canadian Cancer Society’s top fundraising per capita events in the country,” Claire said.

Carrie was inspired to make a difference for families facing a cancer diagnosis after her own mother went through a journey with cancer.

“Thankfully, my mom is still here many years later,” Carrie said, “and I want to help other families have their loved ones with them for as long as possible. I still have my mom because someone else helped and I want to help others have the same experience.”

She also helps out at Out of the Ashes animal rescue to make a difference for our furry friends in need.

To show Carrie our gratitude for her selflessness and the difference it has made here in Stratford, we surprised her with treats for her entire kindergarten class and a spa gift card for her to take some much-needed time for herself, too.

Our nomination form is always open to nominate someone in the community who selflessly gives of themselves despite challenges or hardships, is positive in the face of adversity, or is just plain extraordinary and deserves a special surprise.
