Ontario Provincial Police Const. Mike Garniss was recognized with an Impaired Driving Accolade Award for his commitment to stop impaired driving throughout Perth County.

Garniss, a member of Perth County OPP for over six years, was presented with the award on Tuesday by West Region Chief Supt. Dwight Thib.

The Impaired Driving Accolade acknowledges Garniss' tireless efforts, through his involvement in Reduced Impaired Driving Everywhere (RIDE) programs, traffic stops, and general patrol to keep our roads safe for all members of the community, a news release said.

The OPP presents Accolade Awards each year. Awards are presented in 23 categories recognizing various achievements and exemplary performance.

In 2022 Garniss laid 36 impaired driving charges, the most by an officer in West Region, and second in the province for OPP officers.

"Today we presented PC Mike Garniss with a Provincial Accolade Award for his commitment to public safety and the enforcement of impaired driving laws in Perth County. Congratulations on your achievements and being selected for this well-deserved recognition," said Staff Sgt. David Sinko, Perth County OPP Detachment.
