Ontario Provincial Police say its Festive RIDE Campaign resulted in 11 impaired driving charges in Perth County.

That’s a slight increase from 10 in 2022.

Officers also issued three warn-range suspensions.

Overall, 184 RIDE checkpoints were conducted in our area between Nov. 16 and Jan. 1.

Throughout southwestern Ontario, members of OPP West Region’s 13 detachments conducted 2,446 impaired driving checkpoints – up from 1,804 last year – stopping 13,197 vehicles.

They laid 353 impaired driving charges and issued 55 warn-range suspensions this holiday season.

In a news release, Inspector Mike McConnell said RIDE checkpoints can happen at any time of the year.

“Impaired driving is one of the leading causes of death, injury and property damage on Ontario roadways and it's entirely preventable,” he said.

“If you plan to drink or take drugs, use a designated driver, a taxi or a rideshare service to get home safely."

If you suspect a driver is impaired, police say to call 9-1-1.
