OPP lay charges, investigate structure fire

Perth County OPP responded to a structure fire on Wellington Road 86 in Perth East after a barn containing some horses, dogs and puppies was reported to be fully engulfed.

Police say the incident occurred on Oct. 5 at approximately 12:25 a.m, and it was deemed non-suspicious. Wellington Road 86 remained closed for fire operations but is now open. Police said no one has been injured, however, three horses, two dogs and 11 puppies were reported to have been lost in the blaze. Damages are estimated at $500,000.

Mischief act

Perth OPP are investigating a mischief that took place at a local park on Royal Street East in North Perth between midnight on Sept. 30 and 8:30 a.m. on Oct. 2, 2022.

Domestic assault

The Perth County OPP has charged Huron-Kinloss Township resident after police responded to a domestic disturbance in Perth East on Oct. 2 after 3 a.m.

According to police, the accused went to the victim's residence and was asked to leave. After that, the accused broke a window of a side door and assaulted the victim. Police report no injuries. 

As a result, a 46-year-old male accused has been arrested and charged with:

  • Unlawfully in dwelling house
  • Mischief - domestic
  • Assault - spousal
  • Criminal harassment - threatening conduct

The male was held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Single-vehicle collision

Perth OPP charged a 28-year-old driver from Kitchener with careless driving following a single-vehicle collision on Perth Line 86 in North Perth on Oct. 3 at around 9:21 a.m. Police say the driver lost control and flipped their vehicle. The investigation revealed that the vehicle hit the shoulder, struck the ditch and flipped; no injuries have been reported. The accused was issued a provincial notice for the offence.
