Assault, mischief and traffic charges in Perth County

All but two of the accused will appear in court at a later date

Perth OPP report several incidents leading to arrest and citations.

A 12-year-old is facing assault and uttering threats charges after an incident at a park near Elizabeth Street East in North Perth around 6 p.m. on June 27.

It was determined that the victim was at a local park when they were approached by a youth who brandished an edged weapon.

Also on June 27, at around 4 p.m. police investigated some damaged that had occurred on a wood carving.

The damage is estimated to be around $5,000, and police are asking anyone with any information to come forward and contact police at 1-888-310-1122.

On June 26, around 10:30 a.m. police responded to a heated altercation at a residence on St. George Street in the West Perth.

A 29-year-old resident of Mitchell was charged with spousal assault but was released from custody and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Stratford at a later date.

Careless driving and speeding charges

The first traffic incident occurred on June 23, just after 3 p.m. when the Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), North Perth Fire Department, and the Perth County Paramedic Services responded to a collision on Perth Line 86 in the Municipality of North Perth.

A vehicle ended up in a ditch after allegedly swerving to avoid hitting a transport vehicle.

The lone occupant of the vehicle was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries, and the 29-year-old from Waterloo faces a charge of careless driving.

The second incident occurred around 10:20 a.m. when the OPP, Perth County Paramedic Services, and Perth East Fire Department attended a collision between a vehicle and a motorcycle on Perth Road 107 in the Township of Perth East.

Investigators say the vehicle went through an intersection and struck the motorcycle.

The motorcyclist was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries and a 58-year-old was charged with careless driving.

Later on June 25, shortly after 7:00 p.m., a police officer on general patrol stopped a vehicle on Perth Line 20, in West Perth, after it was found to be travelling in excess of 140km/hr in an 80km/h limit zone.

The 30-year-old resident of Vancouver, British Columbia, has been charged with race motor vehicle - excessive speed, and was issued 30-day driving suspension and 14-day vehicle impoundment was initiated as per statute.

Assault, theft, mischief charges laid in domestic incident

A police investigation into a domestic incident in North Perth has led to numerous charges for a 26-year-old.

Police say that on June 20, shortly after 3 p.m., the OPP received a report of an incident in Listowel.

While investigating, police say that at least one person was in violation of previous release conditions and further information was disclosed about historical allegations.

As a result of the investigation, a 26-year-old is facing charges of:

  • theft under $5,000 (two counts)
  • mischief under $5,000 (three counts)
  • assault (two counts)
  • fail to comply with probation order
  • failure to comply with release order- other than to attend court
