Rosaire Roy, of Stratford passed away peacefully surrounded by his family at the Stratford Perth Rotary Hospice on January 15th, 2024 at the age of 92.
He leaves behind his loving wife Faye Schaus, his 4 children Bernadette, Daniel (Raymonde), Jacinthe and Françoise from his first wife Denise Bissonnette (deceased 1985), as well as 13 grand-children, 2 great grand-children and his beloved dog Sterling Silver. He will be dearly missed by all of his extended family, friends and community.
Rosaire était un fier Franco-Ontarien de Pain Court. He started his teaching career in Welland, before being appointed a professor and teaching at the Faculty of Education of the University of Toronto. Throughout his professional career, he was a strong advocate for French language rights in the province of Ontario.
After retirement, Rosaire moved to Stratford where he and Faye enjoyed hosting guests and international chefs in their B & B, which led to one of his greatest passions; his years of involvement at the Stratford Chef School.
He was curious and creative, enjoyed theatre, golfing, travelling, gardening, cooking, reading, writing poetry and over the years, created many beautiful stained glass pieces and unique bird houses. Rosaire’s great faith supported him throughout his life and during his illness. We would like to thank Dr Leanne Peters for shepherding us through this journey. Our heartfelt thanks to the team at London Health Sciences, the Care Partners, and the compassionate and loving palliative care he received at the Stratford Perth Rotary Hospice. Friends and relatives are invited to Rosaire’s visitation on Tuesday, January 16, 2024 from 6-8p.m. at the W. G. Young Funeral Home, 430 Huron St, Stratford. Rosaire’s funeral service will be held on Wednesday, January 17, 2024 at 1:00pm at the funeral home. Reception to follow.
