Saying goodbye is never easy and when you have had the privilege of loving and being loved by someone as amazing as Elmer, who shared his love, kindness, grace, and a remarkable sense of humour over his mere 66 years, it is so much more difficult. It is heartbreaking to have to announce that Elmer Charles Roden peacefully passed away January 13, 2024, with his family and best friend Oscar lovingly by his side.

Born November 29th, 1957 to John (1989) and Marjorie (nee Barnes)(1974). Elmer lived his rambunctious childhood in and around the Cobble Hill area with his siblings; Patsy (2013), Bob (2021), Les, Paul, Peter, Thelma, Barb, Mary, and JoAnne. Left to mourn with loving memories are his children Ben, Bill, Christina (Casey), and Michael (Amanda), as well as several nieces, and nephews. Family was so very important to Elmer. He thoroughly enjoyed caring for and spending time with his grandchildren; Alisha, Rebecca, Cassandra, Amber, Caelan, Owen (Emmy), Olivia and Cameron. Elmer was a proud Papa who loved each of his grandchildren greater than he ever imagined possible.

Always with a Tim Hortons coffee in hand, Elmer loved spending his days with his close friends at Tim Hortons where they’d catch up, share laughs and stories. Over the years he made the healthy transition from a double cream coffee to a double milk coffee, with no sugar because he was sweet enough he didn’t need his coffee sweetened. When his time came, he carried himself with dignity, strength, and full of joy knowing he was soon going to be with his dear friend Tony Logan.

Your cheerful smile, Your heart of gold, You were the best this world could hold. Never selfish always kind, These are the memories you leave behind. While you sleep a peaceful sleep, Fond memories of you we will always keep. No verse, no flowers, no tears can say, How much we will deeply miss you every day. “We love you Papa more than the universe”.

In keeping with Elmer's wishes, cremation has taken place and a private family gathering will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, Elmer would want a tribute to be made towards his grandchildren’s education by e-transfer to [email protected]. The family sincerely appreciates the support from ONE CARE and the condolences received from friends and family during this challenging time. Your thoughts and prayers are a source of comfort. May Elmer’s enduring love and cherished memories bring solace to all who knew him. Funeral arrangements in care of the W. G.
