Casey Peter Nieuwkuyk, age 74, of Sebringville passed away at the Stratford General Hospital on December 03, 2022 with his wife and girls by his side. Born in Diessen, The Netherlands, Casey was the son of the late John and Nellie (DeVries) Nieuwkuyk, and immigrated to Canada as an infant in May of 1948 with his parents and older sister.
Casey is survived by his wife of 48 years Dianne (Dixon). Loving father of Rosanne (James Osborne) and Cindy (Nick Varey). Father-in-law to Shawn Gavin. Grandfather of Liam and Rory Gavin. Brother to Dina Young (John), Cathy Jones (Kevin), Henrietta Walker (James). Brother-in-law of Linda Nieuwkuyk and Liz Nieuwkuyk, Nancy Hiseman (Ron), Walter Dixon (Teresa), Gordon Dixon (Joanne). Also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Predeceased by his brothers and best friends, Harry and Tony Nieuwkuyk, and his faithful canine companion of many years, Sheba.
Raised in the Sebringville-Stratford area, Casey graduated from Northwestern Secondary School. During Casey’s career he apprenticed at Perth Motors where he became a licensed auto mechanic and then later worked as Service Manager; he worked at FRAM as maintenance mechanic; and then returned to school full-time to retrain at Fanshawe College London earning an Electronics Technician, Robotics and Process Control diploma. After graduating in 1993, he began working at General Dynamics London as a Logistics Engineering Technician until his retirement in 2011.
Casey called himself a jack of all trades and master of none. However, those who knew him well, know that he mastered many. He was an avid Nascar race fan attending many racing events in his heyday. Trading in ‘trackside’ for television broadcasts, Casey never missed a race! One of his many joys over the years was boating and fishing, taking friends and family out on his boat ‘The Dutchmen’ on the waters of Lake Huron and Georgian Bay. When asked just a few days ago by his grandson “What was your favourite vacation?” Of all the places he had traveled, from coast to coast, his answer was Manitoulin Island; the place where he vacationed for many years with his family at Sandfield on Lake Manitou, fishing ‘the big waters’ of South Baymouth.
He retired to Miller Lake, Northern Bruce Peninsula where he made many friends. Casey and Dianne took up new hobbies such as traveling, kayaking, ATVing, and Geocaching. In 2019 they returned to Sebringville where they now reside.
A celebration of Casey’s life will be held in the Reception Centre of the W.G.
