LISTOWEL – Ben McRobbie's power play goal at 14:30 of the third period proved to be the difference as the Listowel Cyclones downed the Stratford Warriors 3-2 Friday night in the opening game of their Midwestern Conference final.

McRobbie's goal made it 3-1 at the time. Stratford's Cole Lewis made it 3-2 with 2:12 left in the third period but the Warriors couldn't get the tying goal.

Michael Denny had given the Warriors a 1-0 lead early in the first period before Listowel goals by Tate Brenner and Cam McNevan made it 2-1 for the home side by the end of the opening frame.

Carter McDougall made 36 saves in the Stratford goal while Dixon Grimes had 22 for Listowel.

Game 2 goes in Stratford Sunday at Hallman Arena at 3:30 p.m.
