St. Marys town council are being asked to approve a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the City of Stratford that highlights that the various municipalities of the region – Stratford, St. Marys, and Perth County – are stronger when working together to help the homeless.

Any party that signs it formally agrees to enter into a collaborative agreement to provide unsheltered people with support and services, along with a list of guidelines.

Brittany Petrie, community outreach worker in St. Marys, has been assisting unsheltered citizens in a similar manner since October 2022 without a written agreement with Stratford, a management report notes.

Petrie is a member of the Ending Homelessness Leadership Group for Stratford-Perth County-St. Marys.

The group is made up of members of organizations that are providing services directly to unsheltered individuals. Its purpose is to create plans for ending homelessness in the region.

The MOU will solidify the responsibilities of Petrie in addressing homelessness for individuals specifically in St. Marys and will strengthen the partnership between St. Marys and the region’s stakeholders.
