'Unsafe Order' issued for Stratford Beer Store following fire

The Beer Store on Huron Street remains closed following a fire early Monday

Shortly after midnight on Monday, May 6, 2024 the Stratford Police Service received a report of an alarm at the Beer Store, located at 429 Huron Street, in the City of Stratford.

Moments later information was received that the building was on fire and Stratford Fire was requested to attend with police.

Upon arrival of Emergency Services, flames were observed inside, and the building was full of smoke.

Staff from the neighbouring Tim Hortons were evacuated for safety purposes, and the area was closed to traffic to allow the Stratford Fire Department to fight the fire.

Fire crews are no longer on scene and the area has since been re-opened to traffic.

The Beer Store does remain closed, and an Unsafe Order on the building has been issued by the City of Stratford Building Department.

The Tim Horton’s located next to the Beer Store was not affected and remains open for business.

At this time the cause of the fire is unknown.
