Perth County OPP is one of a number of police forces taking part in Operation Impact this Thanksgiving weekend.

The initiative, which takes place from Oct. 7-11, will be focusing on alcohol/drug-impaired driving, aggressive and inattentive/distracted driving, as well as lack of or improper use of seatbelts - all main causes of death and injury on Canadian roadways.

Drivers are reminded to always drive defensively and safely. Those that choose to drive distracted, impaired by alcohol or drugs or aggressively "can be expected to be stopped and charged," police say in a news release issued today.

"I ask that everyone drives safely, and free of drugs and alcohol, this long weekend. Our members will be focusing their attention on the increased holiday traffic, please support your families by ensuring you arrive safely this weekend. If you decide not to follow the Rules of the Road, then be prepared for the significant consequences". Inspector Wendy Burrow, Detachment Commander, Perth County OPP.
