Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is urging residents to apply for several open job opportunities.

Provincial police said hundreds of its current members will be eligible for retirement over the next few years, opening up spots for new candidates.

OPP are hiring for uniform officers, civilian roles, special constables and auxiliary members or volunteers.

Uniform officers assist members of the public in cases of emergencies. Specialized policing roles include technical collision investigator, scenes of crime officer and mental health crisis response team member, to name a few.

Civilian or non-uniform members provide support, ranging from positions in civilian data entry to roles within the provincial communications centres, as well as administrative, specialized and managerial positions.

Special constables, on the other hand, are civilian members who have been given limited peace officer or police officer powers by the commissioner for a specific job or task. Special constables have a wide array of roles within the OPP.

Auxiliary members volunteer and are trained to assist with front line policing operations.

Candidates are encouraged to visit opp.ca/careers to find out more information about the positions, the minimum qualifications and instructions on how to apply.
