Impaired, stunt driving charges in Perth County

An 18-year-old faces impaired driving charges following a RIDE program on Line 87 and Road 165 in North Perth earlier this month. 

In a release issued Wednesday, Perth OPP said they stopped the driver at around 8:30 p.m. on June 18 and after speaking to them, came to the conclusion that they were under the influence of cannabis. 

Police then conducted a Standard Field Sobriety Test (SFST) on the driver.

As a result, the driver was arrested and transported to a local operations centre for further testing.

The 18-year-old was also charged with operation while Impaired - alcohol and drugs and failure or refusal to comply with demand

The accused also had their license suspended for 90 days and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.

The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Stratford at a later date to answer to the charges.

Stunt driving charges

A 19-year-old Kitchener resident faces stunt driving charges stemming from an incident that occurred last week.

Perth OPP said they were conducting mobile radar on Line 20 in West Perth around 9:45 p.m. on June 22 when they stopped a vehicle going 50 km/h over the speed limit. Police charged a Kitchener driver after being clocked driving in excess of 134km/hr in an 80km/h zone.

The driver faces a 30-day license suspension and also had their vehicle impounded for 14 days.

Also on June 22, a 31-year-old North Perth resident was clocked them going 50 km/h over the speed limit in West Perth.  

Police say they were conducting a general patrol around 9 p.m.on Perth Road 164 when they stopped the accused for driving 160 km/h in an 80 km/h zone.
