September 13, 1942  -  January 27, 2025

Frederick Albert Voigt, aged 82, a lifelong resident of Stratford, passed away peaceably after a short and sudden illness on Monday, January 27, 2025 at Stratford General Hospital. Born in Stratford, son of the late Albert and Mildred (McMullen) Voigt. Survived by his wife Rita (Purcell) Voigt. Loving father to Jason Voigt, Stephanie (Sean) Simpson and Lindsay Voigt (James Skinner). Proud grandfather to Natalie Simpson, Luke Simpson, Ingrid Voigt, Harrison Skinner and Graydon Skinner. Besides his parents, Fred was predeceased by his sister Joyce (Bruce) Faber and his brother Terry Voigt. Fred will be missed by his loving family and fondly remembered by his sister Dorlene (Paul) Wingfelder, and his many nieces and nephews.

After graduating George Brown College in Toronto and completing his steamfitter apprenticeship, Fred held 59 years in service with UA527 and spent over 30 years working with Sutherland-Schultz in Cambridge. Growing up, Fred was a member of the Stratford YMCA swim and judo clubs and regularly bicycled throughout the area to fish and hunt local streams and woodlands. An avid outdoorsman throughout his life, in later years he made his home waters Bayfield where some of his happiest days were spent fishing the pier and the surrounding shorelines of Lake Huron.

Fred possessed resilient character, a strong work ethic, and was a dedicated father to his family. At home, he was a hands-on builder and craftsman in countless ways, and his love for food was expressed through his creativity in the kitchen, where he prepared signature dishes that always left guests complimenting for more. For those who knew him well, Fred was rarely without a humorous quip or limerick.

Originally diagnosed in 2005, Fred successfully endured countless rounds of cancer treatment and the family would like to thank the dedicated medical staff at Stratford General Hospital and London Health Sciences Centre for all the care and compassion provided to him.

In addition, the family would also like to extend a heartfelt thanks to all his friends and neighbours who in recent years provided a caring network of social bonds, care and support, and in many instances went above and beyond to help Fred with errands, appointments and other necessities.

Keeping with Fred’s wishes, cremation has taken place and there will not be a public remembrance service. The family will honour Fred privately at a later date. As expressions of sympathy memorial donations may be made to Stratford General Hospital Foundation, London Health Sciences Centre, The Hospital for Sick Children, or The War Amps organization through the W. G. Young Funeral Home, 430 Huron St, Stratford, ON.www.wgyoungfuneralhome.com
