Edgar Chaput, age 79 of Stratford passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 14, 2023, at Victoria Hospital in London. He was born in Haileybury, Ontario.

Beloved husband of the late Shirley Chaput (nee Stencill) (2013). Loved father of Pauline Waugh, Suzanne Chaput-Bickell (Geoff), Michelle Czap (Louise) and Steven (Beth). Proud grandfather (Papa) of Katie (Brad), Cody (Jaden), Josh (Bridget), Natalie (Jeremy), Jacob (Rebecca), Willie, Maddyx and Hudsyn. He was the proud Great Grandfather to Dawson, Henley, Charlotte and Elora. Special friend to Rita Gillingwater of Woodstock. Predeceased by his parents Elida and Mathias Chaput, brothers Rheal, Aurel and sister Lucille.

Edgar moved to Stratford with his family in 1966 for employment until he retired from Dura Automotive after 40 years. He was a member of the Catholic community and enjoyed going to church. He spent a lot of his life volunteering for many organizations. Some of which include the Stratford General Hospital, Salvation Army and Cancer Society. He was a proud member of the Knights of Columbus and Army Navy.

He took great pride in improving his health over the last several years and made many great friends at the Stratford YMCA. He enjoyed coffee at the mall with his friends and Friday lunches at the Army and Navy.

It was always very important to him to make time for others. He was a pillar of strength to his family and many others.

He will be greatly missed.

Friends and family may gather at the W. G. Young Funeral Home, 430 Huron Street, Stratford on Thursday, September 21, 2023, from 2 – 4 and 7 – 9 pm with prayers being offered at 1:45 pm. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Immaculate Conception Catholic Parish, 50 Well Street, Stratford on Friday, September 22, 2023 at 11 am followed by a reception in the Parish Hall. Following cremation a private family interment will take place in Avondale Cemetery, Stratford at a later date.
