Helen Martin, age 67 of Stratford, passed away peacefully at home on April 9th. 2022, surrounded by loved ones, after battling cancer for the past year.
Helen was born in South Shields, England, got her university degree in Leicester and taught in Leicester and Canterbury before emigrated to Canada with her young family in 1990. Helen and her family settled in Ajax, Ontario where she taught until her retirement in 2016 at which time Helen and her husband moved to Stratford to be closer to family.
She was a fantastic mother and also a great best friend, sister, partner, mother-in-law, grandmother, aunt, and teacher to so many others too. The lasting mark that she has left on so many in this world will echo on for generations.
She was kind and selfless, and had genuine concern for anyone who happened to enter her life. She was funny and sarcastic, and knew how to bring the mood up in a room when it was needed. She was wise and grounded, and knew when to give advice or when to just sit and listen.
A Celebration of Helen’s life will take place at the W.G. Young Funeral Home, 430 Huron Street, Stratford on Saturday, July 3, at 2 p.m. followed by a reception. As an educator all her life, Helen had asked that, in lieu of flowers, that donations be made to an educational charity such as The Canadian Children’s Book Centre, canadahelp.org.
