Warriors win back-to-back to even Sutherland Cup

Stratford Warriors staved off elimination with a pair of wins over the weekend in the Greater Ontario Junior B Sutherland Cup championship. 

The Warriors 4-1 road win Sunday at Nature Fresh Farms Recreation Centre over the Leamington Flyers evened the provincial Junior B final at 3-3.

Cole Lewis and Luke Fritz scored in the opening period for the Warriors. After Owen Holmes scored shorthanded to get the Flyers back into the game in the second period, Warriors captain Zac McCann restored the two goal margin in the second period and Hunter Nagge added an empty netter in the third period. 

Owen Willmore stopped 33 of 34 shots for Stratford. Bryce Walcarius had 24 saves for Leamington. Attendance was listed at 1,672.

On Saturday at William Allman Memorial Arena in Stratford, the Warriors overcome 2-1 and 3-2 deficits in an elimination game to win 4-3 before 1,651 in attendance. 

The first four goals of the game were on the powerplay.

Connor MacPherson and Ryan MacPherson scored for the Flyers in the first period before McCann got one back for the Warriors, also in the first period.

Stratford's Sheldon Pryce had the only goal of the second period.

In the final period, Cody Brekke scored for the Flyers for a two goal lead with 14 minutes left. 

Carson Harmer scored his first of the playoffs for the Warriors to tie the game and Pryce scored his second powerplay goal of the game with 4:18 left, which stood up as the game winner.

Willmore stopped 22 shots for the Warriors. Walcarius had 24 saves.
