Warriors drop first two games in Sutherland Cup final

Stratford Warriors dropped two games by 4-1 margins over the weekend in the Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League Sutherland Cup final series. 

On Sunday at Nature Fresh Farms Recreation Centre in Leamington, Patrick Cole scored in the opening period to give the Warriors the lead. Ryan MacPherson scored twice and Gabe Piccolo added a third, in the second period for the Flyers. Griffin Grundner added an empty netter late in the third. 

Bryce Walcarius had 26 saves for the Flyers. Owen Willmore had 35 stops for the Warriors. Attendance was 1,665. 

In Game 1 on Friday at William Allman Memorial Arena, Leamington's Trevor LaRue opened the scoring in the second period. Nolan Adkins responded for  Stratford. Ryan MacPherson, Connor MacPherson and Piccolo scored in the third period for the Flyers. 

Walcarius stopped 27 of 28 shots for the Flyers. Willmore had 27 saves for the Warriors. Attendance was 1,908. 

Game 3 is tonight (Monday) in Stratford at 7:30 p.m. Game 4 is Thursday, 7:10 p.m., in Leamington. If needed, Game 5 is back in Stratford on Saturday at 5 p.m., Game 6 is Sunday, May 7 at 5:10 p.m. in Leamington and Game 7 is Tuesday, May 9 at 7:30 p.m. in Stratford.
