The Humane Society of Kitchener Waterloo and Stratford Perth (HSKWSP) currently has 40 dogs in its care and has launched an appeal encouraging community members to open their hearts and homes to a new family member this holiday season.
“We currently have 40 dogs in care between our Kitchener and Stratford centres, which is higher than previous holiday seasons,” Natasha Castellano, animal care supervisor at HSKWSP said in a news release.
“If you, or somebody you know, is looking to adopt, please visit our website to see all of our adorable dogs.”
HSKWSP is also running a promotion where it has reduced adoption fees for certain dogs to find them homes for the holidays. Adoption fees are now reduced either 25 or 50 per cent for select dogs.
“Our need for forever homes is particularly urgent this year as we have a much higher number of dogs looking for a family this holiday season. We are urging people to please consider adopting a pet instead of purchasing one,” said Kathrin Delutis, chief executive officer at the HSKWSP.
HSKWSP’s website lists all dogs available for adoption with pictures and a short description. If you’re interested, you can submit an adoption survey online. From there, an animal care team member will reach out if it appears to be a match and arrange for a meet-and-greet for the adopter and the dog.
The Humane Society is stressing to community members that they have limited staff resources and try to process applications as quickly as possible. They could receive a number of applications for one dog, and encourage people to call in for an update if they are wondering about their application.
