The Stratford Chefs School has brought on Andrew Coppolino as the newest Joseph Hoare Gastronomic Writer In Residence.

A former writing and communications instructor at the school, Coppolino expressed excitement in working with the school again in the new role.

“I have long admired the important work done by the Stratford Chefs School and the passion and commitment to the industry that their students exhibit,” Coppolino said in a prepared statement. “I look forward to working with them and sharing the diverse food narratives and histories during my tenure as Writer In Residence. I’m looking forward to learning from them too.”

Coppolino, currently a food columnist with CBC Radio in Kitchener-Waterloo, is in the midst of a 20-year food writing career. His career kicked off after a two-year stint as an apprentice cook at Peter Martin's 20 King Restaurant in Kitchener.

"The work was hard and the hours long, but it taught me a lot about the industry and my passion for it – though, I must admit, it also prompted me to pursue a career on the other side of the kitchen pass! If you can’t stand the heat, get out of the kitchen,” Coppolino said of his time there.

Coppolino is also a published author, his work including Farm To Table: Celebrating Stratford Chefs School Alumni, Recipes and Perth County Producers and co-author of Cooking with Shakespeare.

He is also currently working on a memoir.
