A "sudden" shortage has forced the Seaforth Community Hospital to implement a temporary service reduction for its emergency department.

The service reduction is as follows:

  • Friday, June 9, 2023 – The emergency department will close at 9 p.m.
  • Saturday, June 10, 2023 – The emergency department will open at 7 a.m. at which point regular hours of operation (24 hours daily) will resume.

The Huron Perth Healthcare Alliance (HPHA) cited "sudden health human resource shortages" as the reason for the hour reduction.

Anyone who needs immediate medical attention can contact 911 as paramedics will continue to be available and will re-route patients to the nearest available emergency department.

The closest 24-hour emergency departments to the Seaforth Community Hospital are:

  • *Exeter – South Huron Hospital
  • *Goderich – Alexandra Marine & General Hospital
  • Stratford – HPHA– Stratford General Hospital

*It is advised to check with these emergency departments before attending to ensure they are operating with regular hours.
