Regular attendees of Stratford city council would have noticed police presence the last few months – evidently raising the ire of some residents.

Coun. Cody Sebben told council at Monday evening’s meeting that he has received a lot of questions and concern about the presence from constituents.

He made a motion to refer the issue to Kevin Bonnell, the manager of the diversity, equity, and inclusion office at the City of Stratford.

“I know this wasn’t a council decision, but I wanted to defer this … just to see if he has any suggestions on how we can proceed with this.”

Only Sebben, Coun. Geza Wordofa, and Coun. Taylor Briscoe were in favour of the failed motion.

Coun. Bonnie Henderson wanted to make a comment on the motion, however Tatiana Dafoe, clerk for the city, reminded council that there is no discussion on a referral motion.
