You'll soon be able to borrow a bus pass from your local library.

The County of Perth and the Perth County Information Network (PCIN) are launching a new PC Connect Library Bus Pass Collection – a free PC Connect fare pass available for residents to sign out from the library.

Effective Monday, June 12, the PC Connect Library Bus Passes will be available at all PCIN library branches.

These include the Stratford, St. Marys, Mitchell, Listowel, Atwood, Monkton, and Milverton branches.

Residents will be able to use their borrowed bus pass to get anywhere along all five PC Connect routes, as many times needed during a four-day loan period, the county said in a news release.

Partnering with PCIN will "further the accessibility of public transportation across our region,” said Maggie Kerr, transit project coordinator.

She said the initiative will help alleviate transportation barriers for residents, while also promoting the use of our PC Connect Transit Service.

Residents are encouraged to borrow a pass to familiarize themselves with the benefits of the service, and explore the convenience of riding PC Connect to work, attend appointments, or visit friends and family, Kerr said.

Launched in 2020, PC Connect is funded by the Government of Ontario’s Community Transportation Grant Program.

Since its launch, the service has welcomed more than 20,000 riders aboard its fleet of five buses, the county said.

PC Connect operates five routes Monday to Saturday, serving Perth County, Stratford, St. Marys, Kitchener/Waterloo and London.

The PCIN is a computerized library network that enables residents of Perth County to have access to the resources of all of the seven participating libraries.

“Having access to these passes increases connectivity for all of our PCIN patrons, so we couldn’t be more excited about this collection addition,” said Hayley Dietz, coordinator of digital services at the North Perth Public Library.
