Dog owners rejoice. There are new waste containers in the city’s parks.

According to a post on the City of Stratford’s Facebook page, special in-ground dog waste containers were installed at three locations this week, courtesy of the community services department.

They are located at Upper Queen’s Park (opposite the bridge near Confederation Park), at Anne Hathaway Park (near the splash pad off Bruce Street), and at Avondale Cemetery (on the north side of the cemetery, near the maintenance shed).

The city now has six of the environmentally friendly containers, which safely store dog waste in an underground compartment to eliminate contamination and odours.

The others are at the Stratford Dog Park off Dunn Road, near the entrance to the T.J. Dolan Natural Area off John Street, and at the north shore pedestrian pathway off William Street near James Street.

The collected dog waste is diverted from the landfill and sent to a facility that produces energy from waste.
